Teaching Philosophy |
I hold a British Columbia Teaching Certificate and a bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science (University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and currently finishing up the Inclusive Education Graduate Diploma at Vancouver Island University. For over ten years, I taught in IB International Schools on three continents. Since moving to Canada I have held contracts working as an Alternative Education Teacher with vulnerable Indigenous youth at Tsawalk Learning Centre and Learning Alternatives. This year I am completing a contract as the Elementary School Outreach Coordinator within School District 68.
As my background demonstrates, I am sincerely compassionate about elevating the quality of student experiences. I believe every child deserves ample opportunity to enhance their quality of life therefore I strive to creatively facilitate strategies, especially using the core competencies and the First People’s Principles of Learning in order for students to excel in this rapidly changing and challenging world. As a Coordinator, one of my top priorities is to be a positive role model and a reliable member of a support group within the educational system. My key task is to consistently create and sustain a meaningful, stable educational experience that students can culturally identify with, relate to and engage in. |
Quote
“When you go out into the woods, and you look at trees, you see all these different trees. And some of them are bent, and some of them are straight, and some of them are evergreens, and some of them are whatever. And you look at the tree and you allow it." -Ram Dass
